Major Crime Department

The Major Crime Department leads investigations into homicide and other offences requiring major-crime investigation arrangements. Its investigators are trained to manage complex enquiries and large quantities of evidence.

How we work

The department brings together investigators, analysts, forensic specialists and other support when a major incident requires a co-ordinated response. Staff plan investigative actions, pursue lines of enquiry, support families and witnesses and manage the disclosure and evidential requirements of a major case. Local police and other specialist departments remain closely involved.

Reporting and enquiries

Information relating to an investigation should be provided through the appropriate crime report or existing-case contact service.
