Specialist Search Unit
The Specialist Search Unit provides trained personnel and equipment for police searches that require specialist methods. Its work can include searches for missing people, evidence searches, security searches and support at major incidents.
How we work
Police Search Advisers help plan the search, assess what resources are needed and co-ordinate specialist officers, dogs or technical support where appropriate. The unit works with local police, investigation teams and Joint Operations commanders. Search activity is recorded and managed through the relevant investigation or operational command.
Reporting and enquiries
Information relevant to a search should be provided through the appropriate report or existing-case route. The unit is not a public contact centre.
