Public Order Department
The Public Order Department maintains the force's specialist arrangements for policing protests, public events and incidents involving large groups of people. Its responsibilities include training, qualification and standards for officers used in public order operations.
How we work
The department supports planning and operational command for events and incidents that need trained public order teams. It includes the Force Support Unit and the Football Unit and co-ordinates specialist resources, training and competence. Deployable teams operate under the direction of the responsible police commanders and within applicable law.
Reporting and enquiries
To tell the force about a procession, protest or other planned event, use the relevant Tell us about service. A new incident must be reported through normal contact routes.
