Scientific Services Department
Scientific Services provides specialist scientific and technical examinations used in police investigations. It supports the analysis of forensic material and the interpretation of findings where particular expertise is needed.
How we work
Specialists work with crime-scene staff, investigating officers and external forensic providers as appropriate. The department helps manage scientific examination requests and standards, including specialist work relevant to serious collisions and the technical assessment of evidence. Findings are documented so investigators and the criminal justice system can understand how conclusions were reached.
Reporting and enquiries
Public reports and evidence must be submitted through the police service responsible for the investigation, not directly to the scientific laboratory.
