Local Policing is responsible for the Constabulary's neighbourhood policing, incident response, local criminal investigations and relationships with communities. It is led by the Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing and delivered through five Local Policing Areas, district commands and Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

How local policing works

Neighbourhood Policing Teams work with the people and organisations in their neighbourhoods. They identify recurring problems, carry out local engagement and prevention activity, and help develop local priorities from the concerns raised to them.

Response Police Officers attend reported incidents, assess immediate policing needs, make the initial record and take action within HIOWC's authorised powers. Local Investigations follows up enquiries, evidence and case progression, referring matters requiring specialist capability to the relevant department.

Our five Local Policing Areas

  • Central Area – Central Hampshire, including Downmere, Asheford, Chalkbourne, Berehurst, Camberreach, Redham and Hartport.
  • Eastern Area – district and neighbourhood policing in the Eastern Area.
  • Northern Area – district and neighbourhood policing in the Northern Area.
  • Western Area – district and neighbourhood policing in the Western Area.
  • Isle of Wight Area – district and neighbourhood policing for the Isle of Wight.

Find your local police team

Search by town, district or neighbourhood using Find your area. Each published team profile identifies the locality it covers and its relationship to the district and policing area. The area finder is a directory, not a means of making an incident report.
