Professional Standards Department
The Professional Standards Department deals with concerns about the conduct and integrity of police officers and staff. Its responsibilities include the assessment and handling of complaints, misconduct investigations, anti-corruption work and oversight of force vetting.
How we work
The department records and assesses complaints, investigates matters within its responsibility and refers or escalates cases through the required independent or statutory process. It works to maintain professional standards and public confidence while protecting the rights of people making complaints and those whose conduct is being examined. The Force Vetting Unit and Counter-Corruption Unit have distinct responsibilities within this structure.
Reporting and enquiries
Complaints about the Constabulary should be made using the formal Thanks and complaints service. That is different from reporting a crime or asking for an update on an existing case.
